He had to say, he was a little chuffed to be leading a patrol for once. Usually he wasn’t left with that responsibility, he didn’t take it serious enough, his father was always ranting whenever he was allowed out of the elder’s den. Stagstrider rolled his eyes at just the memory of his father’s voice. Sharpfang always liked to act like he knew everything at the best of times. But, Pinestar listened, the baby of the family had to, he guessed. The tabby gave his pelt a hard shake, pausing in his stride along the trees to reach up and scratch his ear, no doubt being an inconvienance to anyone who was walking too close behind him.
Soon enough, he was back on his paws again. He guessed he’d said enough of the right things for the leader to give him a patrol, though, so he wasn’t going to waste the chance. Especially given they were going to the edge of the much debated river. He looked back to his fellow warriors briefly. All three had spoke their agreement for the river, Whitewhisker and SPiderfang the loudest. So he supposed that made sense for them to be on a patrol of it. Maybe Pinestar had his own thoughts on what they’d do while out together. Especially given the heat the soaked through the trees, as hot as any Greenleaf day. It had his pelt uncomfortable.
“After all that talk of the river, today’s the day I could really use some cooling down,” he meowed, giving a shake of his head as they broke through the trees and onto the riverbank, pausing there, and squinting into the bright glare that bounced off the water’s surface. Stagstrider looked back to the apprentices of the patrol, Minkpaw and Vervainpaw both only young, but needing practice. Funny they got trusted with some of the more… challenging member of the clan. Stagstrider’s amusement glowed in his amber eyes. “So should we go for a swim while we’re here so we might survive the rest of the patrol in this weather?” His tail flicked behind him, waiting for a reply.
